Once upon a time a count called Sigefroi built a castle high on a promontory. In doing so, he laid the foundation of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and spawned a dynasty that would rule it since then.

Besieged, devastated and rebuilt 20 times in 400 years, Sigefroi’s original castle became the strongest fortress in Europe after Gibraltar, and its site is now the modern day success story that goes by the title of Luxembourg City.

The capital, like the rest of the country, enjoys affluence, stability and an ever-popular royal family.
