The "Regata Storica" is the main event of the Venetian rowing calendar, which includes a local version of rowing, "Voga alla Veneta", a local sport practiced for hundreds of years.

For the 2020 edition, there were doubts about its possible cancellation due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the event went on, with less public than in previous years.

The regatta is divided in two parts: a water parade with historical boats and costumes, carrying the Doge, his wife, and other officials.

And then the rowing races. Those are divided in four categories: from young child ("pupparini"), to women and men. The most exciting race -and fastest- is the male twin-oared gondoliers, rowing fast all along the Grand Canal.
