On January 6th, Epiphany Day, some members of a rowing club disguise as old witches (Befana) in a small race from S. Tomà to the Rialto Bridge. The end line is a huge sock hanging down from the bridge.

The Befana brings gifts in memory of those offered by the Magi to Jesus child. The Befana flies in a broom carrying a bag stuffed with toys and candies, sliding down the chimneys of the houses, filling stockings left hanging by the children.
