En 1585 el Cardenal Felice Peretti fue electo Papa y escogió el nombre de Sixto V.

Durante su pontificado continuaron las obras para reconstruir acueductos romanos y llevar agua al centro de la ciudad. En 1587 concluyó la vía hidráulica, llamada “Acqua Felice”, en recuerdo del Papa Sixto V.

Sixto V insistió en construir una gran fuente que celebre este logro. Así nació la “Fuente de Moisés” o “Fuente del Agua Félix”, la primera de las fuentes monumentales de Roma.


In 1585 Cardinal Felice Peretti was elected Pope and chose the name of Sixtus V.

During his pontificate the works to rebuild Roman aqueducts to bring water to the city center continued. In 1587 the acqueduct called "Acqua Felice", after Pope Sixtus V, was ended.

Sixtus V insisted on having a big fountain that celebrates this achievement and thus was born the "Fountain of Moses" or "Fountain of Acqua Felice", the first of the monumental fountains of Rome.
